2026 Ozaukee County Special Olympics Aquatics Team
2026 Aquatics Team Season Schedule
It’s time to get wet!!
All athletes must have their paperwork and medicals up to date and in possession of Special Olympics Wisconsin by February 1st, 2026.
Our home pool is the District Aquatics Center (DAC) at the Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Washington. We have no alternative pool this season.
Everyone must enter DAC from the side door by the parking lot. Ring the doorbell if the door is locked.
Practice scheduling will remain as last year. No athlete will enter the water before 9:30 AM. No athlete will be in the water unless there is a coach at the pool.
All athletes must check-in and check-out with the Deck Boss (Coach Nels).
Practice will begin at 9:30 AM for the Practice Squad and 9:45 AM for the Competition Team. Practice ends at 11:30ish or maybe earlier if we get everything done.
All athletes will have swim goggles. There are extra googles with the coaches.
Competition Team Members need fins, swim gloves and a board for practice in addition to googles.
Ana is our triathlete this season. She will train in Lane 4. Once she is finished, Lane 4 is open to the Practice Squad.
If you are sick, let us know and do not come to practice. If you are injured, attend if you can.
We are expected to leave DAC by 12 noon. Please arrange for your rides to be there at or before 12 noon.
The Practice Squad are athletes who do not want to compete or are in other sports but may want to accomplish some conditioning either by swimming laps or water aerobics.
Practice Squad members are welcome to participate in team drills, particularly the relays.
You must attend and participate in at least 8 of the 11 practices to qualify for the competition. We will give allowances for inclement weather or if the pool breaks down. We will accept alternative training if you swim at least 14 lengths in one session at a different pool during the week.
We will not field an athlete who is not conditioned and ready for competition.
Again, 8 practice sessions for the competition. No exceptions. No arguments No tears.

1125 25-Meter burn (do this 2 times) 100% effort.
1130 Team meeting.
The goal is for each athlete to build up to 20 lengths of swimming each practice before the Area Meet. A few of you will reach 30 lengths at each practice.
Practice Squad Athletes: The staggered start times worked well between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM. If you start at different times, your lanes will not be as crowded. I suggest starting times to be 9:30 AM, 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM. Most of you take 30-45 minutes to complete your lengths.
Practice Squad Athletes are welcome to participate in drills and/or relays.
