Cavaliers,

Hi, everyone!

I hope you all have enjoyed our beautiful summer and are ready to PLAY SOME FOOTBALL!

Our first practice will be at our usual spot in Centennial Park in Grafton at 5:30pm on Thursday, August 10th.

This practice will begin ½ hour earlier than usual, as we will be going to Flannerys Pub (located at the Fire Ridge Golf Course) after practice to eat dinner and watch the Packers first pre-season game against the Philadelphia Eagles as a team.  Any parents, siblings, or friends of the Special Olympic athletes are welcome to join us. Please reply to this email by the end of this week if you plan to join us for dinner and the Packer game at Flannerys.  The cost is $10 per person; players will need to be dropped off and picked up from Flannerys immediately following the end of the Packer game. If enough people participate for the dinner on August 10th, we will plan to do a second preseason game dinner at Flannerys on August 31st.  That game is against the Rams and we’d plan to just watch the second half of that game, as it begins at 6pm.

After the initial 8-10-2017 practice, all practices going forward will be at Centennial Park on Thursdays at 6:00-7:30pm.  Wear appropriate clothing for the weather (if hot, wear shorts and t-shirts, if cold, sweat pants and sweatshirts.)  Everyone should bring a bottle of water or sport drink with them as well to stay hydrated during our practice.

I look forward to seeing you at Centennial Park on Thursday, August 10th at 5:30pm.

One final bit of information:  Our first Tournament will be Saturday, September  9th in Manitowoc.  Our game times have not been finalized yet, but the tournament overall will run from noon to 4pm.  The games will be held at Rubik Field, 2200 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc, WI.  I do not yet have the date for the MPS tournament, but it will probably be one of the two Saturdays following the Manitowoc tournament.  The State Championship will be held on Saturday, October 7th in Neenah.  If we have a Unified team, they will play on Sunday, October 8th.

Cavaliers,

What a GREAT experience we had this past Friday at the UW- Whitewater Football Camp.  All of Whitewater’s senior players were on hand to run us through a series of rushing, blocking, kicking, tackling, pass defense, and agility drills.  All the Cavaliers that were able to make it told me they had a FANTASTIC time!

I was very proud of our team; you guys definitely made a great impression on UW-Whitewater coaches… I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you get recruited!

Special thanks to Coach Zak and (our new) Coach Phil for helping out at this event; additionally, it was great to have Mike Huettel, Rick Buss, and Mike Wilt join us. Thanks, guys!

I would like to especially recognize Alyssa Bohm for putting this event together.  Many of you met Alyssa on Friday; she is a 5th year student at Whitewater majoring in Special Education.

She has been involved in Special Olympics for many years and she founded this event one year ago.  In the first year, they had 10 players from across the state… this year,  they had 45!  I predict the attendance for this event will explode to hundreds over the coming years and we all have Alyssa to thank for it. Thanks, Alyssa!

Finally, Alyssa graciously offered to have the Cavaliers come back this fall to attend a UW-Whitewater home football game and – get this – play an exhibition game for their fans at half time!  Alyssa and I will be working out the details over the ensuing months, but this should be a phenomenal opportunity for our team.

Great job, Cavaliers!

Coach Mike

Cavaliers,

I hope all of you are well and excited for our upcoming adventure this Friday!

Just a quick follow-up and confirmation of my earlier emails to all of you; if you are joining us this Friday, please note the following:

We have arranged for a bus to take us to UW-Whitewater; the bus will arrive at the Grafton H.S. parking lot (usual place, near the tennis courts) at 1:00pm.  Anyone riding the bus should be there at that time.  The bus will leave at 1:15pm promptly and if you are not there prior to 1:15pm, we will leave without you.

Food and beverages will be provided at camp; you can wear whatever you would like, but I suggest we wear our Cavaliers team shirt and, depending on weather conditions, either a sweatshirt underneath our team shirt and/or sweatpants or shorts… again, depending on temperatures that day.

The camp will run from 3-5pm.  We will leave immediately following the conclusion of camp and should be back to the Grafton H.S. parking lot by 7pm.

I’ll see all of you on Friday!

Coach Mike

UW-Whitewater Football Camp on 4-28-2017

Hi, Cavaliers!

I have confirmed that the following players – as well as some of the players parents – will be attending the UW-Whitewater Football Camp on 4-28-2017.  The players that have confirmed back to me are: Cory Buss, Alex Fuchs, Ryan Huettel, Quinn Natale, Matt Preisler, Joe Samuel, Dustin Scott, Matthew Van Eerden, and Ben Wilt.  If there are any other Cavaliers who wish to play or participate in this Camp at UW-Whitewater, please let me know immediately. (Melinda, you previously indicated you were interested in attending, but I have not heard back from you or your mother.  If you are interested, please confirm.)

Coaches Tom, Adrianne, Zak, and Melinda, if you wish to participate I would love it and you are most welcome; however, due to the parents who will be attending, I have more than adequate supervision for this event. Your attendance is not critical and you should attend only if this date is convenient for you and you have great interest in participating in it.

Thanks for your interest in this event, Cavaliers!  If you have decided that you prefer to drive to this event rather than ride the bus with other teammates, please reply to this email and let me know.

I look forward to seeing you on April 28th!

Coach Mike
